Mt. Eden Domain

A quick day tramp out to Mt. Eden....
Viewing the Mt. Eden volcano! It's about a 45 minute walk from my apartment, but so worth it! It's a bit steeper than it looks!
Starting the Mt. Eden tramp! The volcano is protected as part of the Mt. Eden domain, one of many large greenspaces found throughout urban Auckland.
Gorgeous tree on the side of the crater. Mt. Eden hasn't been active in hundreds and hundreds of years.
Inside the crater of the volcano! Downtown Auckland in the background.
The volcanic crater. This is the "inside" of the cone. There are about 50 of these volcanoes scattered throughout the Auckland region.
Gorgeous flowers we spotted on the walk.
A view of Rangitoto (the big volcano in the background) and a smaller volcano in front of it. Rangitoto is the only still active volcano in the Auckland Volcanic Field.
Auckland! Such spectacular views from Mt. Eden!

  1. Wait till I do my post on Bromo--the volcano that was spewing forth all kinds of smoke! It does look like a lovely walk.

  2. I can't wait to see that post! It was a very nice walk, nice to have a place to get away from the city so close to home!
